Barcelona – Villarreal Soccer Prediction
Despite having drawn 2-2, Barcelona played one of the best games of the season against Real Madrid last Sunday. For the most part of the time he did so in numerical inferiority, a game situation to which Barcelona is not traditionally used (the opposite case is more common, if anything). At the end of the first half, on the provisional result of 1-1, for an alleged foul on Marcelo, Jordi Alba was expelled by referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández, very disputed by the many controversial decisions taken during the match.
Despite the expulsion, Barcelona played without disuniting for the entire second half, trying to keep the team “short”. And after a few minutes he managed to take the lead 2-1, thanks to a magnificent play by Messi in the area, even at the end of a counterattack started with a clear foul by Suarez on Varane. The Barcelona held out for another twenty minutes before suffering a 2-2 draw at 71 minutes, but he nevertheless built dangerous actions even in the final minutes without ever giving up on attack.
With only three games from here to the end of the season, Barcelona’s goal will be to finish it with the only unbeaten team. He succeeded for thirty-six days, and had not lost even in the last seven of the last championship: in total it is a record series of 42 consecutive league games without defeats. It will be possible, but not so easy, to prolong this series in Wednesday night’s match, recovery of the thirty-fourth day last. Villarreal, Barcelona’s opponent at Camp Nou, is in good shape and has won all the last three league games, played all three at home, beating Celta Vigo (4-1) and Valencia (1-0) .
The team coached by Javier Calleja, in sixth place, is not yet mathematically qualified for the next Europa League. But it is only a matter of time: mathematical certainty could already come in this recovery, in the event of a sensational victory. It would climb to 60 points making it unattainable for the Getafe. A single point, however, would not be enough, since it would leave the Getafe still a very remote possibility to reach Villarreal and overcome it for goal difference in direct matches. At Camp Nou Villarreal will try to make at least a good figure, possibly without “losing” the distrusting Bacca and Manu Trigueros for the next game in La Coruna. The module that gave more confidence in the last few days (three consecutive victories) was a 4-2-3-1 with Denis Cheryshev and Samu Castillejo on the wings, and Daniel Raba (4 assists and a goal in the last four days) in the role of the playmaker to support Bacca (six goals in the last five days).
