Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced via Facebook today that the national football championships will resume on May 29 after the suspension of the new coronavirus without spectators.

“We have a well-defined plan to continue the matches in the first football league at the end of May,” said Morawiecki, who warned that the date could change as the situation remains unpredictable despite the improvement in the new coronavirus. “There will be no first whistle of the referee tomorrow,” the Polish PM reassured the public, who made the tentative decision after talks with the Ministry of Health and Sport and the national sports federations. The French agency AFP has said that players will soon begin custom training under strict hygiene control.

Nine Slovenes currently play in the elite football league in Poland, namely Damjan Bohar, Rok Sirk and Sasa Zivec (Zaglebie Lubin), Erik Janza (Gornik Zabrze), David Tijanić (Rakow), Egzon Kryeziu (Lechia Gdansk), Matej Pučko (Korona) Kielce), Tadej Vidmajer (LSK Lodz) and Uros Korun (Piast Gliwice). The outdoor sports facilities will reopen on May 4, with a maximum of six athletes at one time. Two national centers for athletes preparing for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and tennis courts will be opened in Poland.
